The Barbados Cherry bonsai is a wonderful indoor bonsai tree that can make an amazing gift or a great addition to your bonsai collection. This bonsai is also called the Malpighia Pendiculata after Marcello Malpighia, the Italian botanist who discovered it. It’s native to the Caribbean islands, one of the few bonsai to come from the area. The bonsai’s trunk tends to grow in a sweeping, curving style that almost looks like it’s not supported at all. However, the Barbados Cherry won’t tip over, no matter how it looks. The bonsai’s branches and leaves have a slight weeping look to them, and during the spring and summer, they produce small, pink flowers followed by bright red fruit.
