March 30th, 2009 by admin

Let’s face it, cooking can be a messy business sometimes. Whether you’re whipping up a cake and getting flour everywhere or trying not to spash sauce everywhere when you’re creating your favorite pasta dish. Before I start making a meal or dessert, I usually grab whatever apron I have handy from the hook in the pantry. Hot Mulled Apple Cider For Young And Old Alike

February 13th, 2009 by admin

Whenever I was around my Grandma when she made hot apple cider, I noticed that she always tossed in a tea bag. Because that’s all I knew, I thought all Crock Pot Apple Cider recipes would have a tea bag included in the ingredients. But, not all do. The difference, I found, was a slight tangy, but not tart, flavor in the background when you add tea to apple cider. Now, I love it, but my kids, like most, will prefer a little extra sweetness in their hot apple cider. That’s why the added pineapple juice makes this particular hot, mulled cider a delight for the very young and old alike. Read the rest of this entry »

Outdoor Railing Planters

December 16th, 2008 by admin

Two years ago I moved into a beautiful new home with a porch that wrapped around the front of the house, down the side and into the back yard. It was this porch that sold me on the place because I love living outside most of the year. In fact, I will stand in the snow to grill in the dead of winter because there is nothing like being outside. My wife, however, is a designer and insisted on trying a railing planter at several locations to spruce up the porch and give it a little color. Read the rest of this entry »

Liquid Vitamins Better Then Standard Pills

November 19th, 2008 by admin

When taking liquid vitamins you are not getting all the added junk you get with the pill form. Pills have added preservatives, artificial flavors and colors, and fillers. This can make the pills harder to digest. A lot of people will feel discomfort when they swallow the pills and afterwards in their stomach. My Favorite Homemade Mix – Red Beans and Rice

October 4th, 2008 by admin

I used to buy quite a bit of red bean and rice mix. I love it as a side with any type of grilled meat. I also make a one pot meal out of it by adding some cooked chicken and sausage to it. It’s just a handy mix to have around to fix a quick side or main dish. Unfortunately it is only available in my area as a brand item, and prices for those have shot up over the past six months or so. To at least try and get my grocery budget back under control, I started looking for some recipes and suggestions to make some of these convenience foods, including the bean and rice mix myself.
